Sir Winston was founded in 1959, and named after the British Prime Minister, known mainly for his leadership of the United Kingdom during World War II. Since its founding, it has been known in the region for its unusually large number of affluent, academically inclined students, who matriculate from across the city by taking advantage of several loopholes in the Niagara District School Board's highschool application process.
Sir Winston Churchill has several teams, including a football and cross country running team.
Sir Winston Churchill maintains a cross country running team with a respectable record within OFSAA cross country.
In 2009 the team placed 2nd in Junior Boys. [1]
In 2008 3rd in Midget Boys at OFSAA cross country.,[2] and 4th in Senior Boys.[3] Additionally, In 2007 the team placed 3rd in Senior Boys at OFSAA cross country.[4]

Its campus contains a football/soccer/lacrosse field, a track, a parking lot, and a two-story building. The building includes a gymnasium with multiple changing rooms for boys and girls as well as showers, a weight room, and an auditorium. Construction has been underway in the school for a long time, and the result (unveiled in the 2011-2012 school year) is a brand new two-level cafeteria. The old cafeteria has been converted into a larger library, the old library has been converted into two classrooms and there are now elevators available for the use of injured or handicapped students. The school's colours are navy blue and gold, and its mascot is the Bulldog.
The school is one of the most technology-based schools in the area, having classes such as Communications Technology (Com-Tech) and hosting a Specialist High Skills Major program in Film and Television Production. The school recently opened a new broadcast studio on the main floor, outfitted with studio lighting and high definition video cameras, that is used to broadcast the morning announcements - a student-run program called SWC NEWS.
The school is also built on the same plans as another school in the city, Laura Secord Secondary School, located only 6.3 km away.
The Sir Winston Churchill Robodogs have been competing in the First Technology Challenge (2007-2009) and the VEX robotics competitions (2009 - Present), and has competed in the world championships every year for the past 4 years. They have taken 3rd place in both 2009 and 2010, and they did not get picked for the elimination stages during the 2011 championship . This club is run by Mr. Michael Diramio and various teachers, with the added help of parent volunteers and previous SWC Students.
Schoolreach is a competition between schools based on knowledge of trivia. Sir Winston Churchill's Reach team has been very successful in years past.

In May 2011, the concert choir went on a school trip to Cleveland, Ohio to compete in a music festival.
